IFJ objavljuje raspisivanje prve europske novinarske nagrade

28.03.2003.

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) today launches The Europe
Prize: Journalism for a Changing World, the first truly Europe-wide prize
for journalism entirely organised and judged by journalists themselves. The
Prize, which is organised in collaboration with the European Journalism
Centre and the Résidence Palace International Press Centre, has already
received support from a number of leading European newspapers, such as El
País, La Libre Belgique and Politiken.

The Europe Prize seeks to promote excellence in journalism and foster wider
understanding and awareness of the contribution that Europe makes to the
quality of international policy and governance in the field of global
social, environmental and economic issues.

The 2003 edition - which is co-funded by the Network of European
Foundations' European Drug Policy Fund - will be awarded for outstanding
reports which focus on the social, economic and political impact of drug
policy in Europe and in so doing promotes better understanding within civil
society and media about existing drug control mechanisms and the important
role that Europe plays in defining drug policy worldwide.

The Prize will be launched at a press conference in Brussels this afternoon
where European civic leaders will call for wider public debate and dialogue
over global drugs policy with the release of conclusions on a wide-ranging
review of current drugs policy.

Journalists are invited to join the prize launch at a press conference and
cocktail at the International Press Centre, Résidence Palace, Brussels, at
2pm on March 28th.
