OK RADIO ACQUITTED OF CHARGES

 

VRANJE, December 28, 2005 (FoNet) - The owner of Vranje-based OK Radio Goran Vladkovic has been acquitted of charges of local socialists.

 

Following the acquittal, Vladkovic demanded damage compensation of 24 million dinars (close to 283 thousand euros).

 

"The court acquitted Vladkovic of any responsibility, thus proving that our legal system is sometimes immune to all kinds of political pressures, which were, in this case, neither minor nor insignificant", said in the statement of OK Radio.

 

"Yet another disgraceful episode of abuse of independent media by local authorities toward is thus brought to an end, this time in favor of truth and support to the profession", said in the statement.

 

The Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) local council filed a complaint against this media for broadcasting the news over a year ago, based on the sources' report that certain local members of the Socialist Party had printed several thousand blank ballots.

 

Despite the fact that OK Radio also aired the official denial of SPS, the complaint was filed nevertheless.

 

SUCCESSFUL COOPERATION

 

NOVI SAD, December 29, 2005 (Danas) - Vojvodina Executive Council was frequently present in the media reports this year, mainly due to the activities of the council and a good cooperation with journalists, said Vojvodina Information Secretary Milorad Djuric at the yesterday's traditional New Year's Cocktail Party, greeting the representatives of the media that cover the work of the Council.

 

Summarizing the results, Djuric expressed his content with the way the year had passed. He pointed out that the great attention was given to the minority reporting since, as he said, every culture had the right to information and reporting in its own language, which only supported the protection of identity of the province.

 

Journalists were also greeted by the Vojvodina Prime Minister Bojan Pajtic, who also expressed satisfaction for the successful conduct in the past year.

 

"The provincial administration proved to be the most economic in the country, since it didn't record any pay rise, or affairs", said Pajic.

 

Pajtic announced the plans for cuts in administration staff next year, which envisaged the release of 112 staff members.

 

Pajtic expressed belief that 2006 would be marked with successful development, as far as the available funds of the province allow it, despite the fact that activities would focus on the costs cuts and assistance to most socially handicapped citizens.

 

KARIC FAMILY SELLS TV BK

 

BELGRADE, December 30, 2005 (Beta) – According to the Deputy leader of the Power of Serbia Movement, Dragan Karic, his family is no longer owns BK Television.

 

"We are no longer the owners of TV BK. We sold it, now you can go investigate to whom", Karic told daily Dnevnik.

 

He denied the claims that the Power of Serbia Movement was running BK TV and said that according to all available information, it is clear that the Karic family had the least control of any of the involved parties, in all segments of programming, as a company, political option and foundation.

 

"Those who attack us most are the most prominent people too, including the Democratic Party of Serbia, G17 Plus, the Serbian Radical Party, and the Socialist Party of Serbia, not to name everyone. They are the champions. According to the ratings of BK TV, I can freely say that BK is their television, not ours." Karic said.

 

DRAFT VERSION OF CODE OF ETHICS

 

BELGRADE, December 30, 2005 (Beta) – The Committee of the Association of Serbian Journalists (UNS) and Association of Independent Serbian Journalists (NUNS) has concluded the Draft of the Journalism Code of Ethics.

 

Both associations said their "mutual strive was to produce a unique code of ethics for journalists which would be adopted by the wide public".

 

The committee has recommended to both professional associations to organize the meeting with the chief editors of the most influential media in Serbia to assess the proposed document. This committee, consisted of Dimitrije Boarov, Dragan Janjic, Miroslav Pusic and Nino Brajovic, proposed that once the unique Code was adopted, the Media Council should be formed. With this, according to the committee, the favorable conditions would be made for implementation of the Code and improvement of the professional and ethical standards in Serbian journalism.
