MACEDONIA'S PARLIAMENT ABOLISHES PRISON SENTENCE FOR SLANDER

 

With 51 votes in favor, the Parliament yesterday abolished the prison sentence  for slander. "Dnevnik" says the proposal for abolishing the prison sentence was forwarded by the Government and backed by all MPs that attended yesterday's parliamentary session.

 

The law regulation that envisaged prison sentence for slander mostly affected the journalists that were often sued by politicians for slander. The maximum sentence for slander was three years' imprisonment, "Dnevnik" says.
